PostHeaderIcon Sector Information

The IT/BPO Service in Mauritius is the fifth pillar of the Mauritian economy. It contributes about 5.8% towards the Gross Domestic Product of the country and the Government is determined to make Mauritius a regional centre of excellence in the field of Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).

The mission of Enterprise Mauritius is to support the export and development of markets for the services sector namely:

  • Information Communication & Technology
  • Business Processing Outsourcing (voice/ non-voice)
  • Professional Consultancy
  • Construction Consultancy
  • Logistics and Distribution

IT/BPO

The IT/BPO sector of Mauritius experienced effervescence in 2005 with a growth rate of 5.3% contribution to the GDP and employing about 3,800 people. In 2009, the growth rate was evaluated at 5.8% GDP, and providing employment to some 12,000 people.  With a forecast of 7% GDP in 2011 and a predictable employment level of about 29,000 people, Mauritius will undoubtedly become one of the most favoured locations for the outsourcing of global services in the region.

Currently in Mauritius, there are about 258 companies operating in the IT/BPO (voice/ non-voice).  Most of these operators are working for the offshore markets which are primarily for customers based in France, UK, and USA and in the following fields:

  • Software and content development,
  • Call centres, Business and knowledge process outsourcing,
  • Shared services,
  • IT consulting,
  • Multimedia, web site and graphic design,
  • Architecture and Engineering practices.

Our English and French bilingual ability, convenient time zone, state-of-the-art infrastructure and an open-economy environment distinguish Mauritius from other competitors in the field of offshore markets, thus making us competitive, reliable and stable for multinationals to consider outsourcing their services to Mauritius.

Logistics, Transportation & Distribution Services

Mauritius is strategically located to become an ideal logistics and distribution platform for the regional trade (both Air and Maritime) with more than 120,000 m² of sea/air cargo handling space. Major international companies are already operating in the shipping, express courier, air cargo, offshore bulk distribution, freight forwarding, maritime surveyor and insurance.

Mauritius offers a cost-effective location for export-oriented investments and trading activities in-between Asia/Europe to Africa or vice versa and as well as with the rest of the world.

Business activities in logistics, transportation and distribution operating in Mauritius are:

  • Freight forward/ Clearing
  • Transports
