MAGMA - The Mauritian Brand for the Jewellery Sector

Magma LogoTo-day it is a dream comes true for the Mauritian jewellery sector. A brand is born in the name of MAGMA after 3 years of  hard work by 8 “artisans bijoutiers” who have pulled together skills, dexterity, “le savoir faire mauricien”, human and financial resources, patience and perseverance. The MAGMA project was conceived in the spirit of the  jewellery sector’s contribution  towards the national endeavour for branding Mauritius.

Enterprise Mauritius took the lead and organized the launching of the MAGMA collections. The event was held on Friday 7 October at La Maison Creole, Eureka – Moka. The Honorable Cader Sayed-Hossen, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection was the chief guest. Some 200 guests were present and the function was also held in the presence of  her Excellency the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Mrs. Bian Yanhua  and also representatives of the embassies of Libya and Pakistan as well as eminent personalities from the public and private sectors.

Two collections namely MAGMA – Pierre de Lave and MAGMA – Fleurs de l’ile Maurice were unveiled during the launching. A total of 85 unique pieces carefully crafted were presented to the invitees.

The artisans namely Rajen Sooklaul of Bijoux d’or, Siddick Caunhye of Cauhye Bijoux, Ashraf Bordie of New Dawn Jewellery, Rajesh Sooklall of Sokalor, Waleed Khodabaccus of Kodgold, Wanass Khodabaccus of Fibula,  Sawmy Pillai of Bijouterie Souverain and Visham Cahoolessur of Coco d’or  were successfully selected to form part of the MAGMA project.  They benefited from the expertise of  Mr. Jacques Combes who is a French expert with a wide range of experience and former “chef d’atelier”  of Chaumet of Place Vendome in Paris.

The uniqueness of the MAGMA collections lies in the utilization of rare volcanic rocks of Mauritius which have existed for millions of years and which contain some 28 elements including rare particles of gold. The lava rocks were cut and carefully crafted to desired design and shapes for eventual inclusion in the final mounting of exquisite pieces.

The MAGMA – Pierre de Lave is the “Haut De Gamme” series of the collection. Gold, platinum, silver, precious stones and rare endemic volcanic rocks from Mauritius form the core components of this fantastic jewellery collection. The price of these unique pieces starts from Rs. 10,000 and can reach up to Rs. 800,000.

The MAGMA – Fleurs de l’Ile Maurice is a lesser expensive collection where  silver, semi precious stones and volcanic rocks have undergone a perfect blending which have resulted in the production of glamorous jewellery pieces. The MAGMA collections will start their international venture very soon.
